Job Title: Senior Credit Analyst – Commercial Banking


Position Summary

The Senior Credit Analyst is a key member of the Commercial Banking credit team responsible for conducting in-depth financial analysis, assessing credit risk, and supporting the underwriting of complex commercial lending relationships. This role partners closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Officers, and Portfolio Managers to ensure sound credit decisions that align with the bank’s risk appetite and lending standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, commercial credit expertise, and a deep understanding of various industries and lending structures.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and underwrite complex commercial loan requests, including C&I, owner-occupied real estate, investor real estate, and syndicated loans

  • Perform comprehensive financial statement and cash flow analysis, including spreading, ratio analysis, covenant sensitivity, and collateral evaluation

  • Assess borrower creditworthiness, industry risks, market position, management capabilities, and repayment sources

  • Prepare high-quality credit approval packages and presentations that support sound credit decisions and meet regulatory and policy standards

  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers to structure loans that meet client needs while protecting the bank's credit position

  • Assist in the ongoing monitoring of loan portfolios, including periodic credit reviews, covenant testing, and early identification of credit deterioration

  • Support the approval process by presenting credit analyses to internal loan committees or credit officers

  • Stay informed on economic trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes impacting credit risk

  • Mentor junior credit analysts and contribute to their development through guidance and knowledge-sharing

  • Ensure all work complies with internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and loan documentation standards

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred)

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis, underwriting, or portfolio management

  • Skills:
    Strong understanding of commercial lending products, structures, and credit risk factors
    Proficiency in financial statement analysis, loan structuring, and cash flow modeling
    Working knowledge of regulatory requirements, loan documentation, and credit approval processes
    Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
    High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
    Experience with credit software, financial spreading tools, and banking systems

Preferred Certifications (not required)

  • Credit Risk Certification (CRC)

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

  • Commercial Banking Credit Training Program graduate
