About the Role
A Business Banker (also sometimes called a Small Business Banker or Business Banking Officer) is focused on serving the banking needs of small to mid-sized businesses—typically companies with annual revenues ranging from a few hundred thousand to around $10–20 million, depending on the bank.
Here’s what a Business Banker typically does:
1. Client Relationship Management
Act as the main point of contact for small business clients.
Build strong, ongoing relationships to understand the client’s business, goals, and financial needs.
Provide advice and solutions tailored to the business’s stage of growth.
2. Lending & Credit Solutions
Offer and structure business loans, lines of credit, SBA loans, equipment financing, and more.
Guide clients through the loan application process and help gather necessary documentation.
Collaborate with credit analysts or underwriters to get deals approved.
3. Deposit & Treasury Services
Help businesses manage their cash flow through checking/savings accounts, merchant services, and treasury management tools.
Recommend services like remote deposit, ACH payments, or fraud protection.
4. New Business Development
Prospect and network within the local business community to attract new clients.
Attend chamber of commerce events, trade shows, and business mixers.
Follow up on leads from marketing campaigns or branch referrals.
5. Compliance & Risk Awareness
Ensure accounts and loans comply with internal bank policies and regulations.
Monitor accounts for suspicious or high-risk activity.
